Estudos Históricos is a quarterly journal publication with different thematic focus for every issue. It publishes works with a historical perspective and interdisciplinary profile from Brazilian and international scholars on the areas of History, Social Sciences and other related fields. Estudos Históricos is an open-access, peer reviewed, and academic online journal of the Graduate Program in History, Politics and Cultural Studies at the FGV School of Social Sciences and has the top evaluation from the Brazilian Ministry of Education (A1 Qualis CAPES) in the areas of “History” and “Interdisciplinary”. After almost two decades of existence, the Estudos Históricos is now preparing for the publishing of its 60th issue under the title of “Global and Transnational Approaches”.

Presentation of the Special Issue “Global and Transnational Approaches”

In the last decades, under the title of “global” or “transnational”, new historiographical debates and theoretical and methodological approaches of social sciences have taken shape on the North-Atlantic region. In several manners, the phenomenon also reflects the accelerations of the globalization process. More to the South, at the same time, scholars have also been exploring lines and styles of thought that are not circumscribed anymore only to the national context or to political borders of the Nation State. They have been engaging with this process, however, with a critical approach, avoiding reproducing new forms of dependency.

Researches from North and South of the so-called western world have discovered, in this context, new questionings and the revaluation of connections and transfers between societies, cultures and spaces so far overlooked or, simply, disregarded. As rewarding and innovative as these new approaches are, they provide specific challenges regarding both methodology as well as implementation. Despite its apparent potential, it remains unclear how historians might benefit from it.

The aim of the 60th issue of the Journal Estudos Históricos intends precisely to publicize researches with Global or Transnational approaches, contributing to their dissemination within the fields of the Humanities and the Social Sciences. Moreover, the issue also intends to create a common platform for discussion on Space and Time in the field of History and their perceptions on Brazil and Latin America.
