The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking candidates for an Advanced Associate Professor or Full Professor in Political Economy and Globalization. The primary appointment for this position will be in the Sociology department (at least 50%) with a joint appointment (up to 50%) in one of UIC’s interdisciplinary units (Asian American Studies, African American Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, or Gender and Women’s Studies). This search is part of a multiple-hire cluster initiative on Social Justice and Human Rights, a campus initiative that is designed to expand interdisciplinarity and diversity at UIC through multiple hires over several years

We seek a highly accomplished candidate who focuses on processes and policies associated with neoliberalism, globalization, empire/colonialism/postcolonialism, and/or world systems. The field of specialization is open, but we invite applications from scholars whose work explores areas such as: the neoliberal state; emerging markets, technologies, epistemic regimes and policies; the reconfiguration of labor and labor organizing; borders; the reconstitution of citizenship and rights regimes; NGOization; the racial and/or gendered dimensions of globalization; global resistance and social movements. Responsibilities as a senior member of the Social Justice and Human Rights Cluster will include mentorship of junior scholars in overlapping fields of inquiry, developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in appropriate fields, advancing the Social Justice Initiative at UIC, and providing leadership for engaged scholarly projects that link to non-academic community partners.
